The next time you are flying and get seated next to an annoying person who just won't stop talking about their grandchildren and their condo in Del Boca Vista, pull out your laptop and click this handy link: HERE
I was stacking wood on the porch on Saturday and this guy was in the middle of the wood pile. I think it is a Buprestis aurulenta, wood boring beetle. It might be my new favorite beetle, replacing the Tiger beetle.
Here it is, January 19th and the prospect of a good spring run-off is looking better and better. We typically get most of our snowfall in April and things are looking up.
Of course, we need a lot more snow for THIS kind of happy times:
I guess what started me thinking of this was our trip to Durango this morning. I had a "follow up" visit with my surgeon to see how things were progressing. We stopped in Pagosa Springs on the way so Mason could go to the clinic to get checked out. He has been coughing a lot and running a fever at night. The did an x-ray and discovered pneumonia in his lung so he is on antibiotics for a while. We progressed on to Durango and I had a 3 minute meeting with the surgeon in which he pulled off the bandage, grabbed the tail end of my stitches, and pulled the whole thing out like he was unzipping a grain bag. Pretty cool. A two hour drive for a 2 minute procedure... (and who knows what that cost). Anyway, I stopped at 4 Corners Riversports and picked up my dry top (the very one in the picture above) since they had replaced the gaskets for me. I started looking at new boats and getting a little curious about some that were 40% off. Unfortunately, Sara and the kids were waiting in the van so that was the end of that fantasy....
Here's the family descending into the entrance of Carlsbad Caverns. Really cool! Here's the kids sitting under a cool tree on a little hike we took in Texas (south of Carlsbad Caverns) Another one from White Sands The kids next to a stalagmite in Carlsbad.
Here is some sand covering a yucca down in White Sands National Monument. We went down there a few weeks ago with mom and dad. Totally cool place, we need to go back.
It started snowing on Thursday and kept on snowing until Sunday. We got about 2 feet out of the whole thing. The kids really wanted a snow cave (after I said it might be possible to make one) So we made a couple on Sunday. It took about a half hour before Mason smashed a hole in the roof and then it turned into a "snow room" rather than a cave...
It appears that this second version is actually working. So here we go. A week ago, I woke up in the middle of the night with a really bad pain in my stomach. I spent every minute from 3am until daylight writhing on the floor/bed in pain. Tuesday morning Sara got me an appointment at the clinic in Pagosa Springs and off we went. They drew blood and found an elevated white blood cell count and sent me off to Durango to get a CT scan. The scan confirmed appendicitis so out it came. I spent the night in the hospital and came home Wednesday. Scott and Holly Simmons really helped us out and watched the kids while I was under the knife and Sara spent the night at their house.
